Hi, I am Garima Pant, program manager at the Women Welfare Foundation. I hold a bachelor’s degree in development studies from National College affiliated to Kathmandu University in Nepal. As an emerging development practitioner and youth activist, I have been continuously working in the fields of gender, climate change, sexual and reproductive health rights, and promoting girls’ education in rural parts of Nepal. Professionally engaging with non-profit organizations like Visible Impact working at Forum for Women Law and Development as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and managing a non-profit organization I have gained valuable learning experience through my engagement in diverse projects related to gender, climate, citizenship rights, reproductive health rights etc. My professional background has provided me with the opportunity to take part in several policy discussions with policymakers and parliamentarians in Nepal.
I am primarily working to address two major issues: gender inequality and climate change. I have worked as a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Forum for Women Law and Development (FWLD), advocating for women's rights and equality. Recently I got the opportunity to work on the ‘SUPER’ project which was supported by the UN Women. This project was more about climate change, disaster risk, and management from a gender lens. I have gained valuable experience with organizations like FWLD and Visible Impact and currently with the Women Welfare Foundation (WWF), working on projects for women's rights, gender equality, and climate awareness.
Besides this, as a program manager at the Women Welfare Foundation in Nepal, my focus lies on uplifting underprivileged women and girls through education, empowerment, and opportunities. As the research shows women being more dis-proportionally affected by the impacts of climate change, I am leading climate literacy programs for marginalized and underprivileged women in different parts of Nepal. I, with my team, am dedicated to spreading knowledge and awareness regarding climate change, its impacts, vulnerability, mitigation methods, and ways for sustainable living to school students, youths, and women.
Since I am more concerned about these issues, my team and I intend to expand our programs in different districts of Nepal in cooperation with the local government. Through our efforts, we are constantly looking for creative practical solutions where underprivileged marginalized, economically disadvantaged, and rural communities feel more connected and involved in our initiatives. Beside my professional life, I have a deep passion for poetry, travel, art, writing, and reading. I am deeply fascinated by human stories and strongly believes in the transformative power they carry.
